Southend central library will be closed from this evening as workers start on a £40,000 refit.
The millennium revamp will see one of the busiest libraries in Essex shut for more than a week.
The main library will be closed from 7pm tonight until Monday January 24.
The revamp will create a centralised inquiry desk on the second floor and a new information technology base for all computers.
