Conor Campbell is stepping out - with his new leg.

Sixteen-month-old Conor lost part of his right leg below the knee after contracting meningitis.

But this week doctors fitted him with an artificial limb and mum Charlotte Baker said he is progressing well.

Charlotte, 19, of Boxted Avenue, Clacton, said: "He has not walked on his own yet. It has been two months with nothing and all of a sudden he has got something there. I think he is a bit bewildered."

But she thought Conor was getting used to the new leg, which he can only have on for an hour a day at present.

Despite the trauma of his illness, Conor seems to be even happier now than before.

Charlotte said: "His whole personality has changed, he is so happy all the time."

Bit bewildered - Conor and mother Charlotte.
