Southend United's second-string crashed to defeat at Roots Hall against a strong Millwall line-up in the Avon Insurance Combination League.
The visitors took the lead on 23 minutes yesterday when midfielder Bobby Bowry's right-flank cross was miskicked by towering striker Paul Moody, but converted at the far-post by Byron Bubb.
Blues levelled things up right on the stroke of half-time when front-runner Neville Roach ran onto Kevin Maher's superbly chipped pass and netted from just inside the Millwall box.
But the Lions condemned the Shrimpers' reserves to their first defeat in six games on 64 minutes when Andreas Karaiskos pounced on a mistake by Seasiders defender Leo Roget.
The left-winger forced his way to the by-line and crossed for former Arsenal hitman Paul Shaw to fire home the winner from six-yards.
Southend: Prudhoe, McDonald (McSweeney), Kerrigan, Perkins, Roget, Johnson, Hails, Clarke, Maher, Fitzpatrick (Morrish), Roach (Abiodun).
Incoming - goalscorer Neville Roach launches a tackle on Milwall defender Joe Dolan during the two sides' Avon Insurance Combination League clash at Roots Hall yesterday. However, Roach's 23rd minute strike was not enough as the Lions battled to a 2-1 victory.
