The driver of a Bedford pick-up truck who died in a head-on collision with a lorry on the A120 has been named.
Frederick Charles Townsend, 45, formerly of Lyons Hall Road, Bocking, near Braintree, was certified dead at the scene after being cut from the wreckage of his vehicle.
Police closed the road for three hours following the crash on the Coggeshall bypass at 4.50pm on Monday.
Rush-hour traffic was diverted through Coggeshall, causing major delays and tailbacks.
Stephen Day, 41, of Ramsgate Drive, Ipswich, was driving the 17-tonne lorry which was travelling towards Colchester when the collision occurred.
He was taken to Colchester General Hospital and released after receiving treatment for minor injuries.
Mr Townsend's pick-up truck was travelling towards Braintree, as was a Ford Fiesta driven by Jamie Traveller, 18, from Bradwell.
A spokesman for Bocking traffic police said following the collision the Fiesta received minor damage as it passed by.
Mr Traveller was treated for minor injuries at Colchester General Hospital.
Bocking traffic police are appealing for witnesses and would particularly like to hear from anyone who was travelling towards Braintree at the time of the collision. Please ring 01376 330722.
