Ramblers are at last finding some consistency with this third consecutive victory and a performance that was for the most part pretty solid and at times quite impressive.
It was an important victory both statistically and psychologically as it moves Burnham up to third place, and the comprehensive defeat of a side who began one place above them, is a great confidence boost.
All their remaining fixtures bar one are now against sides below the two recently so well beaten so the run in may become very interesting.
The first 20 minutes of Saturday's game were uneventful, but Ramblers began to enjoy more possession and as the half progressed, at last started to threaten.
On 17 minutes, a goal-line scramble was cleared to Francis who was fouled on the edge of the penalty box and down headed the free-kick just wide.
It was little surprise when Ramblers went ahead on 28 minutes but the quality of the goal caught the eye, Down running 30 yards and holding off a challenge before steering the ball home.
On 36 minutes Wright met Down's sharp cross perfectly, but saw the ball hit the post and bounce into goalkeeper Pether's surprised grasp.
Brentwood's best player, Stittle, headed against a post with Burnham's goalkeeper Clare well beaten but it was only the visitor's second effort on target in the half.
Right on the break though, Miyoba against exposed Brentwood's squareness as he raced clear, but he was foiled at the end by a fine tackle from Garneys.
Ramblers were now in full flight and taking Brentwood apart on the left.
On 57 minutes Down's cross was rolled home by Miyoba.
It was then Dobson's turn to deliver a cross for Francis to make it 3-0.
Dobson's alertness saw him surprise Pether by chasing a loose ball which never should have been his, but nevertheless finished in the net with him.
Dobson and Clare then combined to concede an immediate own goal from a rare Brentwood attack and six minutes later Fairweather's fierce drive made it 4-2.
The failure to close him down was the afternoon's only real cause for complaint.
With the last kicks of the game, Francis was found by Moss and ran on to score a cheeky fifth goal.
