Drivers on the A12 faced delays this morning (Tuesday) as roadworks started again after a Christmas lay-off.

The stretch of road between the Boreham Interchange and Hatfield Peverel is affected by the maintenance work and a 40mph speed limit is in place.

PC John Simpson, from Chelmsford traffic police, said: "It will cause some kind of slow moving traffic and delays. There will be a lot of bunching and tailbacks but it isn't too bad.

"The traffic is slow but at least it's moving."

Urging drivers to remain vigilant and stick to the speed limits, PC Simpson said: "When the roadworks were on before Christmas we did not have any accidents in the queues."

Extra speed cameras have been put up on the stretch and drivers who ignore the 40mph limit could face a £40 fine and three penalty points.

The work should be finshed by the end of March.
