A stitch in time from a kindly group of Basildon women could help save a baby's life.
The women are members of the town's Stitching Club are in the throes of making a millennium quilt to raise cash for charity. It is being raffled to help Basildon Hospital's special baby unit which cares for premature tots.
The club, which has raised more than £1,000, came under the spotlight at the weekend.
Members proudly showed off their remarkable quilt at the new hobby and craft superstore in Westgate, Basildon.
Throngs of people huddled around the club's display as members showed how the quilt was painstakingly produced with one side cross stitch and other side patch work.
The club, which started at the home of founder Lesley Davis, now meets on the third Thursday of every month at the George Hurd Centre, Cherrydown West, Basildon.
The group welcomes new members and anyone interested in joining should contact Lesley on 01268 523542.
