Children's charity fundraisers from Great Tey have presented a much-needed piece of equipment to the special care baby unit at Colchester General Hospital.

With the help of generous villagers, Russell and Jean Cottis have raised £2,000 to buy the fibre optic lighting pad to help jaundiced babies recover.

Over the last 14 years they have raised thousands of pounds for children's charities in Great and Marks Tey.

Every year Mr Cottis, of Brookhouse Road, raises money with the help of Father Christmas and carol singers who travel around the villages during the festive period.

A number of other successful fundraising events last year meant he reached his target of £2,000 by the year 2000 on New Year's Day.
