No buyer has yet been found for the multi-million pound new Barclays Life Assurance building.

Car giant Visteon said it was still interested in the Cranes Farm Road site, but no decision has been made yet.

Visteon employs 2000 workers at different sites in Basildon and is looking to consolidate them in one building in south-east England.

A Visteon spokesman said the Barclays building was still one option being looked at to do this.

It is not known when a decision will be made. A spokesman for Barclays, said: "The property will eventually be sold.

"We are unable to say at the moment if anyone is interested."

Barclays was due to transfer 900 staff from its Stratford office in east London to Basildon. However, it pulled out of the deal last summer, following a down turn in the pensions market.

The decision was a massive blow to Basildon District Council, which had touted the state-of-the-art building as the jewel in the crown of a host of multi-million pound projects during the last two years.

Visteon is the world's third largest automotive systems supplier to the car industry with a client list including Ford, Nissan, Peugeot and Volkswagen.

It designs and manufactures climate control, audio and many other car features.
