The only tie played in the senior Southend Borough Combination knockout competition for the Walton Cup saw Tubbs grab a hat-trick for Old Southendian in a 5-2 win at Thames Park.
Shoebury Town still top the Premier Division, but were made to fight all the way before winning 3-2 at Newton Hall thanks to a Doyle double.
In the Reserve Division, G Keane's brace enabled White Ensign to stay top with a 4-0 win at Ekco First Data 3rd.
With the leaders otherwise engaged, other challengers moved closer at the top of Division One with Thorpe Athletic just two points off the pace after beating Catholic 5-4 thanks to four goals from Merenda.
In Division Two, Royal Bank of Scotland are in credit as joint leaders following their 5-3 grounding of Airborne United. Grainger, Phillips, Smith, Whittington and Jones got their goals.
Flightspares soared to a 6-0 thrashing of Battlesbridge 2nd in Division Three with Butler scoring a hat-trick. Leigh Ramblers 3rd, their nearest rivals, triumphed 2-0 over Landwick thanks to Pond and Davies.
Leigh Times continue to make the Division Four headlines. M Guy scored three as they beat Thames Park 3rd 5-3 to stay on top, while Heath Sports 2nd, their nearest rivals, won 4-2 at Melchester Rovers.
There was a first in Division Five when leaders Parsons Barn were beaten for the first time. They went down 6-5 at home to Zebra Sports in a real epic battle. Cox earned his stripes with a hat-trick for Zebra, while Davis got three for the Shoebury pub outfit.
Brook Sports lead Division Six after a 3-1 win at Battlesbridge 3rd. Ridley scored two.
Landwick 2nd beat bottom team Parsons Barn 2nd 6-1, with G Smith scoring two, to stay second, while International PMS 2nd stayed in the hunt when they triumphed 6-2 over Kings Field Casuals 2nd. Blake grabbed a brace here.
