Talk about starting them young - a week-old baby is set to become the youngest-ever Conservative party recruit!
Little Amy Yalland, who was born just 36 hours before the dawn of the new millennium, has been signed up by her father Adrian, chairman of Essex young Tories' branch.
Mr Yalland, 30, of Old Heath Road, Colchester, said on Friday: "I have already filled in Amy's application to join the party - even though she was only born last Thursday.
"It is my job to recruit people under 30 to the party and so I thought I ought to start with my own family."
And although it may be a publicity stunt if the application is accepted by Conservative Central Office she will be the youngest ever member and have voting rights on party business. The next youngest is aged 10.
A spokeswoman said: "She will definitely be the youngest party member. It is quite bizarre."
Baby Amy - soon to be officially the Tories' youngest card-carrying member?
