Mundon Parish Council has taken up a mother's campaign to get traffic improvements in the village.

Mrs Sharon King whose daughter is recovering after a recent accident in the road has raised the issue with the parish council, and plans to write to county highways.

She said: "You get halfway through the village and the 30mph speed limit stops.

"There are still very sharp bends and there are 15 houses at this end of the village - so quite frankly we are part of it."

Mrs King believes although areas like Mayland and Southmin-ster are becoming more built up, roads en-route through places like Mundon are also suffering from the volume of traffic.

Parish clerk, Ann Hutchison said: "We are going to write to the highways department to find out first of all if the 30mph limit could be extended or alternatively if the 40mph limit which is through Latchingdon could be extended to Mundon.

"We would also like to find out if lampposts could be put by the bus stop and some sections of the footpaths by the bus stop could be made up."

A spokeswoman for Essex County Council highways department said: "We do not currently have plans to extend the 30mph limit in Mundon Road.

"But Mrs King can write to our Rayleigh office and approach the parish and district councils and they can put it forward for inclusion in the locally determined budget."
