A Colchester housing estate is set to make history by hosting its first-ever carnival.
The ambitious idea for a parade of floats through the roads of Greenstead has been put forward.
Residents have suggested a carnival to improve community spirit and bring people together.
If it gets backing and enough organisers it would take place this summer, culminating in a fun-day and events at Magnolia Field in Hawthorn Avenue.
Lynn Traynor, Greenstead's community development worker for Colchester Council, said: "It is an exciting idea. If it goes ahead it will be the first time Greenstead has ever had a carnival.
"But we have got to be realistic. It will only work if people are willing to help."
She said perhaps they could coincide it with Greenstead Social Club's summer fun day to get more people involved.
Options so far include local groups and residents parading in fancy dress on floats, bands playing, fund-raising events for community organisations and children's activities.
It would not clash with Colchester's own annual carnival which attracts large crowds to the town.
