Troubleshooters have been called in to help crisis-hit Broomfield Hospital.

A team of NHS managers and clinicians will be spending time at the troubled Chelmsford hospital putting together a review of the best way forward.

The news comes after the continuing bed crisis prompted a Health union to call for urgent action.

Patients again spent the night in the accident and emergency department on Tuesday before they were moved on to wards. The new medical assessment unit was kept open all night to house them.

Now union members want the Community Health Council to appeal to the Secretary of State to open ward B10 - closed last year - to ease the problem.

But Mid Essex Hospitals NHS Trust announced the findings of the review panel will be published next month, with no major changes made until then.

New Trust chairman David Bullock said: "We are keen to ensure the Trust takes the opportunity to review its operational management arrangements for the future. This review will be an open process with the whole workforce and its findings will be made public."
