A Husband has hit out at cruel thieves who stole his wife's disabled buggy and dumped it in the sea.

Harry Haddon, 59, of Station Street, Walton, said that the four-wheel vehicle was her only way of getting about.

He said she had been devastated by the theft and the buggy would now need a complete overhaul before it could be used again.

Mr Haddon's wife, Anne, 56, suffers from osteoarthritis and is in remission from cancer.

"She spent the whole of the day crying and the entire incident has made her upset and angry," said Mr Haddon.

"It will cost hundreds of pounds to put right. The speed regulator has gone, the switch for the key is missing and other parts are damaged."

The buggy was stolen from the couple's home between 12pm and 3pm on Monday.

Mr Haddon searched the area when he took his dogs out for a walk but could not find it.

Then on Tuesday , when he was walking the dogs along the promenade by Walton Pier, he spotted the vehicle in the sea.

Anyone with information on the theft can contact Walton police on 01255 851212. He said: "We have got it in the back garden but it is pretty useless at the moment until we can get it fixed."

He estimated a new one would cost around £2,000.

Mr Haddon said his wife used have a wheelchair but they had given that to someone else who needed it when they got the buggy about three years ago.

He added: "I cannot understand why anyone would take it. They could not have done anything with it once the batteries had run down and it was hardly any use to them."

"Luckily it was low tide and a couple of fishermen helped me get it out and back up to the top," "It is still covered in seaweed and smashed up."
