With the chilly weather it may not be the best time of year to be bald - but for one charity-minded man no other time would do.
Rolf Overaa, of Goldsworthy Drive, Great Wakering, is preparing to have his locks chopped off and it's all in the name of charity.
As a worker at the town's JobCentre, Mr Overaa has become involved with homeless people living rough around Southend. He is now cherishing the last few days he has with hair and a beard before having them shaved off for two worthy causes.
The cash raised will be split between the Southend Centre for the Homeless and Shelter.
He is hoping to collect more than £1,000 in return for losing his hair.
He said: "I have never been bald before. I was born with hair and have always kept it long. I have bought a bobble hat to get me through the winter!"
The hair-raising event is at 8pm on Thursday, Jan-uary 6, at the Red Lion pub, in High Street, Great Wakering.
