A man was hit in the face on his doorstep and had his jaw broken after an argument on a bus.
The 31-year-old man had got on a number eight bus at Southend bus station and a group of around six youths got on the bus at Chancellor Road.
During the journey there was a disagreement between the man and the group of youths who were aged around ten to 15 years old.
The man got off the bus at Shoebury and was followed to his home address at Colne Drive by the group.
The police were called, but before they arrived, there was a knock at the door and the man was confronted by a man and a youth.
It was demanded that the 31-year-old apologise and when he refused, he was assaulted and received a broken jaw, cuts and bruises. The man who attacked him was white, 25 years old, 5ft 7ins tall, with short dark hair. He was wearing blue jeans and a black bomber jacket.
A spokeswoman for Shoebury police said: "We are keen to contact anyone who may have witnessed the incident on the bus or who may have seen the man being assaulted at his home address."
Anyone with information should contact PC Webb at Shoebury police on 01702 293748.
