A thick fog posed problems for Stan and Ada Glover when they tied the knot 60 years ago.

Stan, now 82, of North Avenue, Southend, walked with his brother in front of the taxi to guide it to the church.

He said: "There was an absolutely thick fog. The taxi followed the tram lines until he got to Hamlet Court Road but then he kept running into the kerbs so we walked in front."

The fog also meant wedding photos were taken in St John's Church hall, Pier Hill.

Stan met Ada, now 85, after calling for her brother in North Avenue - the same home Ada was born in and where the couple live today.

By 1941, Stan was called up and served in the Navy before returning home in 1946 when he returned to his life-long job at Milton Hall brick factory in Great Wakering.

Later Ada helped boost the family income by working for Marks & Spencer.

The family has grown over the years to include four children, ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

But what is the secret of 60 years of wedded bliss? Stan said: "It's just a matter of give and take.

"We are just lucky enough to be on the same wavelength."

Happy - Stan and Ada Glover
