Chelmsford City manager Gary Bellamy wants his two new strikers - Steve Morris and Ben Fuller - to give him the best Christmas present possible with goals at Baldock Town on Bank Holiday Monday (December 27) and at home to Erith & Belvedere the following Monday (January 3).
"Six points from these holiday games is important for us as we are behind with our fixtures and need to catch up with the front runners," Bellamy said yesterday. "Ben has re-covered from the flu' virus and so he will be partnering Steve in attack for the first time.
"I think they will gel and both are capable of scoring goals which is what we need to win these important matches," he said. "A double festive win is the best Christmas present I could ask for!"
The manager feels too that the overall balance of the side is now right adding: "I think we now have the right pegs in the right holes, with competition for places and players able to be versatile enough to play in different positions."
The competition for places, which Bellamy feels is healthy for the players, will intensify in the New Year when the long term injured, such as defender John Girling, Brian Sutton and Paul Catley return.
Both Bank Holiday games kick off at 3 pm.
Commenting on last Saturday's draw against Corby, Bellamy said: "I felt for the first 20 minutes that we gave them too much room but from then onwards we dominated the game, had the chances but failed to finish.
"Had we scored that all important second goal then we would have won comfortably, although Corby are always a difficult side to break down," he said. "We must leran to have more movement and cause these sides more problems."
He went on: "The league is wide open this season - Ashford lost to St Leonards on Tuesday and this is what is happening, with everyone beating one another," he said. "With hopefully our now settled side we can put a run together, pick up the points from our games in hand and be up there at the top.
City also have the advantage of having more home games to play than their rivals but it is points that are needed.
