Speeders watch out - get caught and you could be paying for the camera which catches you next time.
Essex Police have joined forces with councils to launch a scheme to use more speed cameras. From April, they can spend cash from speeders' fines to improve road safety and buy more cameras.
The scheme with Essex County Council, Southend and Thurrock unitary authorities includes an initial investment of up to £5 million over two years. The Government funding will be clawed back from speeders' fines.
Digital speed cameras will be used at the county's blackspots. The cameras will mean officers getting photos of speeders more quickly and easily.
Essex Police is to identify places for the cameras.
