A man accused of planning to sell half a tonne of cannabis and 100,000 Ecstasy tablets had two heart attacks within days of his arrest, a court was told.
Robert Turner, 53, of Dagenham, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to supply cannabis and Ecstasy after police seized the drugs from an address in Meadow Lane, Runwell.
Robin Howat, defending, told magistrates that Turner was too ill to attend the hearing at Basildon Magistrates' Court, as he had suffered two heart attacks within two days of his arrest.
The case was adjourned until January 24.
