Chelmsford Golf Club's Mens Section has held its Christmas Turkey Trot in its usual mid-December Sunday slot.
40 teams competied for the first 17 places which were rewarded with meat vouchers for the first three places and suitable Christmas beverages for the remainder.
The day started bright but finished up being cold and wet.
The members were more than delighted to see the club's bar manageress Angie maintaining a welcome service from the halfway hut, from early morning to mid-afternoon.
The teams that were successful in the November Trot maintained their winning form for this one, returning good scores considering the condition.
The leading team produced eight birdies in the round, bring in a gross score of 68, and, with a handicap allowance of 9.3 the team recorded a nett 50.7 for the 18 holes.
The leading team were Alan Castle, Arthur Vale, Colin Bridge and Bob Coulter.
Second best score, gross 66, one worse than their November score but a nett score of 52.95 was recorded by the team of Mike Beer, Eric Watkinson, Derek Parsons and Colin Guy. This was on countback from Roger Beck, John Baker, Peter Colson and Ron Aitken who returned the same gross and nett scores.
Fourth place with a gross 61, nett 54.55, was achieved by Martin Harris, Stephen Harris, Jonathan Harris and Don Hills.
The Lady Captain, Linda Parrott, and her committee members put on their usual highly appreciated children's party.
One of the highlights of the year, seeing 'Father Christmas' arriving in his 'sleigh' carrying his sack of presents for the children and after their songs and recitations, burst out of the party carrying presents which seemed to be as big as some of the children themselves!
Extremely well done, a lot of hard work but the children? They simply love it.
