Jobs are safe at Eastern Electricity in Rayleigh despite cuts of more than 400 across the company.
Eastern is due to merge with London Electricity and bring together staff who operate the distribution networks, such as overhead cables.
But an Eastern Electricity spokesman said jobs at the company's Rayleigh office in London Road, which employs 400, were safe.
She said: "The staff there are mostly Eastern Energy staff in the retail business, who are not affected by the venture. There are only 60 Eastern Electricity staff there and they are engineers and field staff, whereas the majority of losses will be from the office and admin side."
A total of 800 jobs are expected to be lost from Eastern and London Electricity through the merger, which will bring together the distribution networks.
