Plans for a casino at the Kursaal, on Southend seafront, were confirmed today.
London Clubs International is to apply for a gambling licence. A hearing is expected to take place on the licence in March of next year before Southend Magistrates' Court.
Marilyn Eden, marketing director for the business, said: "We have lodged our application and very much look forward to making our case to the magistrates.
"We recognise the importance of Southend both to south-east Essex and east London as a commercial and leisure centre.
"London Clubs sees this as a unique opportunity to participate in the leisure business of the region and at the same time breathe new life into the famous Southend landmark, the Kursaal."
The company will make an application to bring its Rendezvous-style casino to the town - which would be Southend's third casino.
In addition to the gaming facilities, the Rendezvous would offer two restaurants and extensive bar facilities.
Ms Eden said: "Our priority will be to give local people as much information about our application as possible and to invite them to participate in the process.
"A modern Rendezvous casino is a mainstream leisure business offering excellent career opportunities with a first class company.
"We would love to bring those qualities to the Kursaal."
