Billericay Town's third successive victory away from home, all within an eight day period, was secured on Saturday, in very cold and windy conditions.

The matchday programme notes from the hosts' Chairman suggested that this was Boreham Wood's most important game of the season.

Managerless and on a run of defeats, their last performance had signalled something of a turnaround and the expectation was that the improvement could be sustained and a dramatic fall down the League table arrested.

But no matter what the previous match had suggested, Town were simply too good for them and settled down to do the job early on.

Boreham Wood seemed reasonably secure at the back and fairly fast up front, but Town soon wore down the defence, while Dave Culverhouse partnered by Chris Moore controlled the infrequent Boreham Wood attacks quite well.

Boreham Wood players picked up three first half yellow cards, and, indeed, it was home players who made the first half headlines.

Wood's Mark Robson missed 'a sitter' midway through the half.

For once the Town defence had been dragged to the left and an attacker squared the ball to his left where Robson had an open goal in front of him.

As the first-touch shot drifted wide, Robson could do no more than bury his face in his hands.

Clearly a goal at this stage would have altered the course of the match, but the chance was practically the only one for Wood throughout the whole afternoon.

Worse was to follow for the hosts. Five minutes off the break forward Mike Bignall recklessly tried to tackle Gavin King, the Town goalkeeper, as the latter dealt with a back pass.

King went down, Bignall picked up his second yellow card, and Boreham Wood were down to ten men.

Late on for Town, Mark Simpson rattled an effort off the angle of the Boreham Wood crossbar and right hand post from close in, but appeared to damage a muscle in doing so.

With play continuing, he rolled off the pitch to receive attention. He did not, however, reappear for the second half.

If Boreham Wood had struggled to make an impression in the first half, they ought to have found it even more difficult in the second.

But for the first 20 minutes, the extra man seemed to make no difference. But Town's superiority eventually told and the resistance was broken down.

On 70 minutes Stafford Browne, on the edge of the centre circle, was robbed but did well to recover the ball.

It rolled to Dean Parratt who looked up and planted the ball into the path of Justin Gentle down the left.

The excellent cross was caught perfectly first time by a sprinting Williams who clipped the ball from the near post past Dave Root in the Boreham Wood goal.

This was a killer blow for the Hertfordshire side. Caretaker manager Colin Payne tried though and made two substitutions.

But it made little difference as Town stroked the ball around and deservedly got a second goal on 83 minutes.

A Gentle cross again beat the defence and was out of the reach of Root.

Browne and Kirk Game rose to head the ball and it was Browne who got the touch and put Town 2-0 up.

There was no way back for the hosts who tried hard, but never looked in Town's class.

Billericay manager Gary Calder had contended during the week that there were no easy games in the Premier Division, and while this game was certainly not easy, Billericay played well within themselves and, apart from offering a simply first half chance to Boreham Wood, never really looked in danger.
