Officers from an elite anti-crime unit wreaked havoc in a Chelmsford nightspot.
Members of the National Crime Squad are thought to have been on a Christmas party when the trouble started at Chicago Rock Cafe.
Chelmsford police were called to the Friday morning incident and now an investigation has been launched.
A spokeswoman for Essex Police said yesterday: "We can confirm the incident involved off duty National Crime Squad officers. No arrests were made but investigations are continuing.
No-one from Chicago's was available to comment.
