The disabled in Basildon could be in line for cheaper council taxes.
Some residents living in band A homes may be eligible for reductions under a new Government initiative to be introduced next year.
Bills could be slashed by up to a ninth - or around £60 a year for some householders. The reductions would also be made available to those who live with a disabled person.
Basildon Council chiefs want those who think they may qualify to call them for more information.
Tony Borlase, chairman of the council's resources committee, said: "These new rules have been brought in by the Government and affect people across the country.
"As a responsible authority we want to ensure as many people as possible are aware of the changes being brought in so they can see whether or not it affects them.
"I would urge everyone who feels they may be affected by the change to contact our council tax billing section immediately."
Basildon Council has been reviewing all applications as a result of the new legislation.
