Officers from an elite anti-crime unit wreaked havoc in a Chelmsford nightspot.

Members of the National Crime Squad are thought to have been on a Christmas party when the trouble started at Chicago Rock Cafe.

Chelmsford police were called to the Friday morning incident and now an investigation has been launched.

A spokeswoman for Essex Police said today: "We can confirm the incident involved off duty National Crime Squad officers. No arrests were made but investigations are continuing.

No-one from Chicago's was available to comment today.
