Police are appealing for witnesses following two separate road collisions in which pedestrians died.
The first happened at about 7pm on Friday at the junction of Skelmersdale Road and Granville Road, Clacton, and involved a pedestrian and a Vauxhall Cavalier.
Cyril Leader, 71, of Granville Road, Clacton, was taken to Colchester General Hospital but pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.
The driver received treatment for severe shock.
In the second incident at about 4am on the A1016 road at Widford, near Chelmsford, a pedestrian was involved in a collision with a black taxi.
Peter Brown, 30, of Gloucester Avenue, Chelmsford, was taken to the town's Broomfield Hospital but pronounced dead on arrival.
