Baby Jack Hatton was able to pose for the camera, thanks to the care and devotion of staff in Southend Hospital's neonatal unit.
When he was born prematurely in May, he weighed just 2lb 9oz and needed all the skills and equipment available in the intensive high dependency and special care units.
It was touch and go, but he was finally discharged in August, after more than doubling his birthweight.
Parents Mike and Beverley of Havenside, Little Wakering showed their appreciation by persuading Mike's employers KeyMed to donated two special monitors to the unit.
Manufacturing and service director, Peter Virgo, joined the Hattons to present the equipment, which monitors heart rate, oxygen levels and breathing.
The special equipment was received by Dr Arfa Khan, the consultant paediatrician and chief executive David Brackenbury at a special hospital ceremony.
Baby Jack now weighs a healthy 13lb 8oz.
