Opposition strikers will no longer be rubbing their hands with glee at the prospect of meeting Billericay Town.

The New Lodge side had picked up the unenviable reputation of having one of the most generous defences in the Ryman League Premier Division by conceding goals at an alarming rate.

However, three games with clean sheets has put a far different complexion on the Billericay story and they have now moved up to sixth place in the table following Saturday's easy win at relegation strugglers Boreham Wood.

To be honest the host outfit rarely had much idea on how to trouble a home rearguard in which Gavin King in goal was rarely really troubled.

Far too often the home attack duo of John Lawford and Mike Bagnall ran into offside positions and the latter's frustration was compounded when he was ordered off after 43 minutes for collecting his second caution of the afternoon.

Town had suffered their own ill-fortune five minutes before the break when Colin Simpson hit the bar with an effort and pulled a hamstring in the process.

He was substituted by Gary Henty at half-time and will have plenty of free time to aid his recovery as he's out of next Saturday's home League game with Walton and Hersham on a one-match suspension.

With the wind in their favour, and using the extra man to good advantage, Town put their own former long-serving goalkeeper Dave Root under heavy pressure in the second-half.

As so often in recent times, their two goals were created by the crossing power of flankman Justin Gentle. The first was shot home after 71 minutes, when Gentle put the ball over from the left, by Lee Williams.

Then, with eight minutes remaining, a short Dean Parratt corner allowed Gentle to cross from the right and the head of star scorer Stafford Browne completed the job.
