The funeral of Colchester man Adrian Doherty was due to take place on Friday - more than two months after his body was found rolled up in a carpet.
The body has been released following a police investigation into his death.
Mr Doherty, 31, of Normandy Avenue, Barn Hall estate, was found dead in a rolled up carpet in a quiet lane in Elmstead Market on September 26.
He was due to marry his common law wife Louise Smith a week later.
His funeral service was to take place at Colchester Crematorium and mourners have been asked to make donations to North East Essex Drug Advisory Service (NEEDAS) instead of buying flowers.
Five people - three men and two women - have been charged in connection with Mr Doherty's death and concealing his body.
