Lady luck was smiling down as teenager Samantha Woolf won more than 100 books for her school and a family trip to Florida after entering a competition on the internet.
Samantha, a pupil at King John School, Benfleet, entered the contest after her mum stumbled on a publishing website while surfing the net.
Publishers Dorling Kindersley was offering £1,000 worth of books and a family holiday to budding young book cover designers.
Samantha's mum, Lesley, persuaded the 14-year-old student, who lives in Thundersley, to enter the national competition and her robot design received top marks from the judges.
Author Martina Cole was at the school to help put the new books away in the library.
