Maldon police are appealing for witnesses after a 22-year-old man was attacked at the town's Rose and Crown pub on Friday evening.
The man, who suffered facial injuries in the attack at the High Street pub, was taken to Broomfield Hospital, but released after treatment.
Police arrested a man in connection with the attack. He was later released without charge.
A spokesman for Maldon police said: "This is an incident we need to look into. If anyone saw anything we would like to hear from them."
