Seventeen Mark Mountney, a six-handicapper, grabbed two eagles and a birdie in his second-round 70 to clinch Castle Point Golf Club's major title - the Scratch Club Championship.
His one-over par total of 143 from both rounds left him two shots better off than second-placed five-handicapper Michael Goodwin, who notched nine birdies overall in his scores of 72 and 73.
Third spot went to Terry Sansom (a five handicapper), whose second-round 76 in the afternoon winds followed a five-birdie 70 on the Canvey course.
Another five-handicapper, A MacIntyre, who dropped only one shot in his magnificent morning three-under-par 69, faded dramatically with an 81.
R Carter, a seven-handicapper, followed his 72 with a 76, to snatch fourth place in the field of 28.
