Billericay Town boss Gary Calder has agreed terms with former Charlton Athletic midfielder Paul Linger, who spent last season with Conference side Welling.
He is expected to line-up when the Blues play their final pre-season friendly at home to Chelmsford City on Saturday.
Linger, who is in his mid-twenties, and broke a leg while playing at the Valley, will add much needed experience to the new-look Town side.
Calder said he was also currently talking to a goalkeeper and another defender and was confident that he would have a formidable side ready for Town's opening Ryman League Premier Division match.
The manager, who was not impressed with the side's goalless draw at Aveley on Tuesday, said he would be sitting last night (Thursday) to finalise the squad for the new season.
"I will be telling the players who I want to stay and those that do not figure in my plans," he said. "It's always a hard decision but that's football. All the lads have worked hard in pre-season but now it's decision time."
