A drunk motorist who was four times over the limit stopped and asked police officers for directions - to the nearest police station.
Hapless Richard Kitchener told officers he felt "as good as gold" as he asked them the way to Corringham police station, Basildon magistrates heard.
They were more than happy to escort him to the station where he was arrested for drink-driving.
Unemployed Kitchener, 49, of Rykhill, Stanford-le-Hope, admitted drink driving. Nicola Darvill, prosecuting, said Kitchener had asked directions to the station because it was near a shop he was trying to find.
Kitchener had two previous convictions for drink-driving. He was jailed for three weeks and banned from driving for a year.
