Wivenhoe Town turned in a fine performance as they drew 1-1 at Romford last night.
Romford are a division above Wivenhoe in the Ryman League, but it was the Dragons who took the lead after half an hour through Tony Chatters.
They then defended valiantly for much of the rest of the match, the home side eventually equalising with about 15 minutes left on the clock.
Steve Pitt, Wivenhoe co-manager, said: "It was an excellent performance and we were a little bit unfortunate, the way we defended, not to win the game."
The Colchester side were missing Jimmy Clewley and Lee Abrahart, who are both set to return tomorrow.
Halstead Town and Burnham Ramblers battled out a 1-1 draw at Rosemary Lane.
Lee Fish gave Halstead the lead on the half hour mark but Burnham equalised with five minutes remaining.
Nigel Hewes picked himself up from a foul by goalkeeper Mick Bavester to convert a penalty.
