The most expensive hairdressing scissors in the world are now being used in Westcliff.
The John Barry salon has invested in a revolutionary hair cutting system which promises to prevent split ends forever.
The computerised system which heat seals the hair as it is styled was recently featured on BBC's Tomorrow's World.
The salon, in London Road, is the only one in south Essex to have the £4,000 machine and is hoping the Thera-Cut system will alter the style of haircutting.
The technique dates back to Roman times when hair was singed by a heated blade - but now the process has been refined by the Italians.
A digitally computerised system, linked to the latest technology, warms the scissors which are used in the same way as conventional ones. By having hair cut thermally, split ends do not reappear and will not need frequent recutting.
Owner John Ellis originally brought the system into his Westcliff branch for a trial but his clients were so impressed with the results he splashed out thousands to buy it.
