Southend United boss Alan Little has promised to keep searching for a new midfielder following Steve Bushell's shock decision to reject a move to the Third Division club.
Later editions of yesterday's Echosport revealed that the 26-year-old Blackpool ball-winner had turned down the chance to be reunited with his former York City boss Little, in a deal which was believed to be worth £100,000.
Blues had set a fee with the Second Division outfit and agreed personal terms with Bushell, but the midfielder backed out of the move at the last minute.
"I'm very disappointed because Steve is a quality player who would have done a very good job for us at Roots Hall," said Little.
A strong Southend United reserve side cruised to a 4-1 victory at Ryman leaguers Witham Town last night. Trevor Fitzpatrick (2), Simon Livett and Kevin Maher were on target for the Shrimpers.
