A couple are to celebrate an eventful 70 years together.

Daisy and John Hall of Frinton celebrate their platinum wedding anniversary tomorrow.

During the 70 years together they have worked in London, faced financial hardship and started what is now a 30 room hotel.

Mrs Hall, 91, lives at the Anna Victoria Home, while Mr Hall, 94, of Astell Court, visits her each day and still drives.

They married at St Joseph's Church, Walthamstow, and honeymooned for a week in Lowestoft, but Mr Hall faced a problem when he asked for permission to marry from Daisy's father.

Mr Hall said: "Her father was a musician and he was always working in the evening and I was working during the day so I had to go where he was conducting an orchestra and had to ask him during the breaks."

Mrs Hall was a secretary at a transfer company and Mr Hall worked for a boot and shoe manufacturers.

After they married, the couple faced lean times financially and Mr Hall worked during the day for a food wholesalers while in the evening he fronted his own group called Jack Hall's Melody Makers who played five nights a week in London.

Mrs Hall was also taking in lodgers and the house later became St Michael's Guest House and today is the 30 bedroom St Michael's Hotel in Chingford.

Following their retirement the couple moved to Frinton to live near friends who had also retired to the town.

The couple have one son, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Staff at the Anna Victoria home will be helping the pair celebrate with tea and cake on the day.

Matron Norma Geddes said: "They are very devoted to each other their lives just revolve around each other."
