Open qualifier Jon Bevan was among those taking part in the Colchester Golf Club Pro-Am '99 at their Braiswick course on Friday.
The event, sponsored by This Is Essex's joint publishers Newsquest, featured 46 teams with all profits going to St Helena Hospice.
Among the other top local golfers taking part were Solheim Cup captain Mickey Walker, Colchester's Mark Angel and Mark Baker, Open non-qualifier Tony Charnley and Essex's professional Wendy Dicks.
Colchester's Sarah Graves was also set to make her pro-am debut at the age of just 15.
But many eyes were on Bevan after he shot to fame by playing two rounds in the Open at Carnoustie.
