A man suffered serious head injuries when the car in which he was travelling overturned and was involved in a collision with an articulated lorry on the A12.

Michael Cohen, 30, of London, was a passenger in the car when the accident (pictured left) happened at Margaretting, just after 10am on Saturday.

Police said that the car flipped over and somersaulted several times before the collision happened.

Driver Peter Goldsworthy, 30, of Southsea, Hampshire, suffered an arm injury, as did his passenger, Phyllida Cheyne, 30, of London.

Another passenger, Deirdre Watkins, 32, of London, suffered shock and was taken to Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, with the other car casualties, but was discharged.

The lorry driver, Dean Scarlett, 34, of Colchester, also suffered shock, but was not taken to hospital.

Mr Cohen was transferred to the plastic surgery ward in the St Andrews Centre at Broomfield Hospital, where his condition was described on Tuesday as satisfactory.

Miss Cheyne, who was described as comfortable, was transferred to the same ward, along with Mr Goldsworthy, who was said to be doing well.
