Police are asking Interpol for help in their efforts to identify a body found decaying in an overgrown bunker in Harwich.

Det Sgt Mick Ornellas, part of the investigation team based at an incident room at Stanway, said officers have already been going through lists of missing people in Essex and nationally.

He said today: "Now we are liaising with Interpol to find out about missing foreigners."

Detectives are still no nearer finding out who the man is or what he died of - ten days after the body was reported in a bunker at Beacon Hill Fort.

Det Sgt Ornellas said: "We have been going through the details of missing people but no-one has contacted us to say someone they know is missing."

An Essex Police spokeswoman confirmed today the inquiry team have started to get back the results of toxicology tests but they had to wait until they got all the results in before they could be analysed.

She said: "Some results are back but they are not really telling us much at the moment."

A post mortem examination carried out on the body, which was found on July 18, has proved inconclusive.

Officers are keeping an open mind about the death.

They would like to hear from anyone who has been sleeping rough at the fort or from children who may have seen anything suspicious in the area.

Anyone with information should contact the incident room at Stanway on 01206 546629 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
