An elderly motorist today died after a crash outside the Crown Inn, Ardleigh.
The man, from the village, was driving a Peugeot car when it was in a collision with a Ford Fiesta at 10.15am.
Firefighters freed him by cutting off the car's roof, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Essex Air Ambulance landed but the victim was taken to hospital by road ambulance.
The Fiesta driver was treated for shock.
