Hullbridge.............224-5
Rayne..................212 all out
(Hullbridge won by 12 runs)
(T. Rippon League Division Four)
Rayne's promotion hopes were dealt a huge blow on Saturday as old rivals Hullbridge inflicted a defeat which puts them clear of Rayne in third spot.
Hullbridge batted first with Oxley and Palmer building a solid start, and both survived chances as Palmer went on to complete his half century.
After 15 overs, Hullbridge were well poised at 78 for one, and were looking at a big total.
Nick Hasler and Ian Clark helped stem the flow of runs as Rayne fought their way back into the game, but Hullbridge still had wickets in hand as they approached the last ten overs.
Sully (45no) ran superbly as he lifted the score over 220 to help set Rayne a tricky target.
The reply got off to a poor start with three quick wickets as only Mick Richardson (38) came to terms with the bowling.
Peter Dawson kept Rayne in the game with a quick fire knock of 82, but with limited support from the other end, Rayne were always struggling.
Once Dawson was removed, Rayne's hopes faded even more, although Glyn Hockley (22 n.o) did give them a glimmer of hope, by leaving Rayne 15 runs to win off the final over.
Hullbridge put all their fielders back and with Short claiming two wickets, the Bridge ran out comfortable winners.

RAYNE II ................193 all out
HOCKLEY II...................194-2
(Hockley won by eight wickets)
(T.Rippon League Division Eight)
Rayne travelled to Hockley, hoping to repeat their victory from earlier in the season to move themselves into the promotion race.
Their innings got off to a great start as Barry Mouser (51) and Paul Whybrow (52) shared 102 for the first wicket.
At 102 for one in the 20th over, Rayne were well placed, but thereafter, only Lee Butler (20), Colin Pease (18) and Jon Sainsbury (12) reached double figures. Baker claimed five for 36 to help dismiss Rayne for 193 all out.
The Hockley batsmen then set about the Rayne bowlers with some brutal batting and they reached their target after only 27 overs.
Warren (86 no) and Sculpher (81) were the main run scorers as the hosts cruised to victory.
