Chelmsford Chieftains have re-signed forward Jon Cotton for the coming season.

Cotton has previously played for Bracknell Bees, Blackburn Hawks, Peterborough Pirates and Invicta Dynamos, where he scored a massive 93 points from 20 games in the 1997/98 season.

Cotton, 24, was signed by Chieftains on 'deadline day' - the last day of December 1998 after being sensationally'released by the Invicta Dynamos.

He soon became a great hit with Chieftains' fans and scored 69 points (32 goals 37 assists) in just 26 Chieftains' matches.

He ended last season as the top scoring British born player in the English Premier League with 72 points (36 + 36) from just 29 matches.

Born in Wroughton, near Swindon, Cotton now lives in Peterborough and will re-establish his links with fellow Peterborough based player Craig Britton.

A Chieftains spokesman said: "We are delighted to have re-signed Jon for the forthcoming season.

''The signing continues Chieftains' commitment to signing quality players and in Jon we have a player with excellent credentials as his record with all his previous clubs have demonstrated. We will have a formidable squad once again."
