Colchester boss Mick Wadsworth will take his triumphant squad to Harwich and Parkeston tomorrow looking to pick up a second trophy in three days.

The U's play the Shrimpers in the final of the Harwich Charity Shield at the club's Royal Oak ground having already seen off Watford 4-0 and Essex rivals Southend United 2-1 to win the Essex Courier Cup competition - which also involved Peterborough - at Roots Hall.

"It was a great weekend," said a delighted Wadsworth today. "We played really well when beating Watford on Saturday and although we were not at our best in the final with Southend the overall quality of our squad shone through.

"The final was a bit competitive, but I didn't expect it would be any other way and overall the tournament produced a smashing weekend.

"If there's a cup to be won then we will always go out to win it."

"Six goals for and only one against in our two games, I'll settle for that. There is nothing better than the winning habit and we've enjoyed that with two good wins against very good opposition."

Wadsworth was, however quick to register his disappointment over the fact that cup final referee Alec Burey ordered him to take off both Brian Launders and Lomana Lua Lua for reckless tackles in what was a red blooded encounter with Southend.

He said: "The referee had a difficult match, but I was particularly disappointed by the Launders and Lua Lua decisions because they were the players' first offences."

Shrimpers boss Alan Little refused to panic after seeing his men throw away an opportunity to re-establish themselves as the county's top football team.

"I know our supporters will be gutted to have lost at home to Colchester in the final of our own tournament, but we must look at the positive side of this weekend's workout," he said.
