Coastguards today warned of the danger of diving into the sea after an accident in which a man suffered head injuries.
Dan McAlistair, of Broadway, Jaywick, was climbing on one of the new groynes on the beach and dived into shallow water, hitting his head, neck and shoulders on rocks.
An emergency call was made to coastguards at 2.25pm who alerted ambulance and lifeboat crews.
A coastguard spokesman said: "It's never a good idea to dive into water unless you know it really well."
After being treated by a paramedic motorcyclist, Mr McAlistair was taken to Colchester General Hospital.
He was later allowed home after being treated for head injuries. Clacton lifeboat was also called to the incident yesterday afternoon.
