New team captain Warren Aspinall will return to action on Saturday to lead Colchester United's quest for glory in a four-team tournament at Southend.

The U's will join battle with Southend, Watford and Peterborough United in the two-day pre-season tournament at the Shrimpers' Roots Hall stadium tomorrow and Sunday.

Midfielder Aspinall is joined in the U's squad by former Spurs and Ipswich striker Jason Dozzell - both players have been struggling with stomach strains - but midfielders Steve Forbes and Geraint Williams will both be missing because of leg injuries.

U's boss Mick Wadsworth said: "It will be nice if we win it for our fans, but frankly the result is not important . My main aim from the weekend is fitness, understanding and enjoyment - and most importantly how the team plays."

The U's open the tournament against Premiership new boys Watford, kick-off 1pm, followed by Southend v Peterborough, kick-off 3.30pm.

The winners will move forward to contest the final on Sunday, kick-off 3.30pm, after the two losing semi-finalists have fought out the consolation match for third and fourth places, kick-off 1pm.

Admission prices are £6 (adults); £2 (concessions) per day. All ticket enquiries should be directed to Southend United, telephone 01702 304090.
